Welcome! It's week five of the One Room Challenge! We've all been working so hard on our rooms, we need external reminders to eat, sleep, and sometimes breathe. I hope that everyone is staying healthy through it all and remember to be grateful for what we do have and the progress that we've all made so far.
Have you ever found that one piece that absolutely changes your whole
design concept because it's that good, it's THE ONE that you absolutely
have to have. Kind of like when you find the perfect wedding dress,
THE ONE that feels just right? Let's go on THE ONE roller coaster ride we went on last weekend, shall we?
This past weekend we made some major progress in the room. We got several deliveries and assembled all of the large pieces of furniture for the room except for one essential piece that A wanted, a bookcase. We still have not nailed down THE ONE that feels right. I think I may have finally found one that might work but it might not make it for the room reveal. There's no telling how it looks like in person either, so no stress about it not making it this week.
On Saturday, we finally made the trip to Ikea. We found the perfect ceiling light, THE ONE that has all the
elements that A loves! She's
so happy with it. When you find the one that fits all the criteria that
your client wants and it's affordable, it's a win-win and feels so
good.
The downside, WE SPENT HALF A DAY AT IKEA because
we decided to go through the showroom to browse the newer displays.
When we got to the marketplace we found that some of the pieces we
thought would work (that they didn't have on display in the showroom)
didn't. So that meant we bought less than what we intended (good for the
bank account) but it also meant that we're back to sourcing again. No
time to shop = stressful.
Last night, we found out that the room configuration that we decided on back in
week two didn't work out. Sometimes what looks good on paper just doesn't feel right in real life. We spent a couple of hours just moving furniture around and debating on what goes where and why it would work best. The layout we ended up with (which could change again because we might be building a closet in the room this summer) is what feels best for A. I let her have the final say in what goes where because after all she'll be the one living in it the most, it has to work for her.
A couple of weeks ago after my
week three progress update, I found THE ONE bed that stopped me in my tracks.
It had the right lines, style and color that we wanted, it would have
worked so well for her room, the only caveat, the price was steep and
our current situation (just moved, still fixing lots of more major
issues around the house (like the partially working water heater) and
the rest of the house, especially public areas that we NEED furniture to
function in are barely furnished) just didn't allow for this purchase.
So after feeling really down about this, I came up with the solution of
creating my own version of this bed, an affordable option because every
smart designer knows that there is always a way to get the look for
less. So I bought another bed that has similar lines, ordered some
upholstery fabric in a similar color, and furniture legs that are
similar to the inspiration piece. I was just waiting for the finishing touch for this piece
and hoped to post a DIY on this but last night, I found out that the
legs I ordered are out of stock. That was such a setback, my heart sank
and I almost gave up. We'll still use the bed and I
won't have this DIY complete for the final reveal but I will have it
completed someday soon and the DIY will go up!
Although not everything worked out, we're grateful for what we have and the room looks so much better than it did before. This weekend, we'll be installing the finishing touches, doing a photo shoot and we'll probably do something or take a long nap to celebrate our victories.
Thank you for visiting! I hope that you enjoyed this post and visit again soon.
