Nothing like the ORC (One Room Challenge) to kick me back into blogging after a three year hiatus!
The One Room Challenge is a design event that occurs twice a year (spring and winter) and hosted by Linda at
Calling it Home and media partner,
House Beautiful. During this six week event, featured designers and bloggers share progress of their room transformations every Wednesday or Thursday and do a final reveal on week six.
Every year I look forward to binge reading and living
vicariously through all the featured designers and talented guest
participant's rooms. This year I'm excited to announce that I'll be
sharing a small space from my home with everyone through the ORC as
well.
My ORC project for this spring is my oldest daughter's bedroom.
This room was used as an office by the previous owners. It was fitted with oak cabinets and lovely oak chair molding and there's also no closet.
We've taken down the down the cabinets and chair molding and started patching up the walls. We'll have to incorporate some sort of storage for clothes and
shoes without taking up too much square footage in the room.
The lighting fixture (which I'm surprised didn't show up on any of these photos) will also need to be updated. This room is located in the lower level of
our house so the plush carpet flooring may have to stay to keep it warm
as we have no room in the budget for heated flooring at this time. My daughter, who I'll refer to as "A" is in her first year of college, so a place to study is a must. She's also asked that I incorporate some sort of open shelving bookcase storage for books and collectibles.

A's a minimalist and prefers modern designed spaces. She likes soft colors, back-lit walls/shelving and geometric shapes. Her ideal
bedroom would resemble something you'd see in a modern style house. This is a big challenge for me because my
design style is completely opposite from hers. I tend to gravitate towards the
Bohemian, french, traditional, and vintage Hollywood glamour styles and I want to keep some sort of cohesion between rooms in the house for better transition and resell value. At the same time, I want each of my kid's rooms to reflect their personality and give them space for their hobbies.
The inspiration board:
This is a bit ambitious as I haven't blogged for quite a while and we've
just moved into our new house! This is our third day here and our garage
and every other room in the house is a jungle of half emptied cardboard
boxes!!
"Life has been busy" is an understatement but there's never going to be a perfect time to start a house project. Just start it, keep going, and it'll get done.
Thank you for visiting, I hope to see you all again next week! :)
